Guitar Braille: Letters A, B, C, D, E, and G

Guitar braille

This file folder game can be used with students with low vision who are beginning to learn braille. 

Materials: 
  • File Folder
  • Glue (glue sticks work the best)
  • Velcro (if desired)
  • Braille labels

Procedure:

There is a guitar pick with the dot number, a guitar with the alphabet letter, and a guitar with the dot configuration for letters A, B, C, D, E, and G.  These can be matched in various ways, as in the example below:

  • Print out the file desired. Every document has a title page that can be cut out and glued to the front of the file for quick identification.  Glue the two sheets with the characters/symbols to the inside of the folder.
    • For durability you can laminate the folder and pieces. (I would recommend using non-glare lamination). 
  • Cut out the pieces and attach Velcro if desired. Several of the pieces are blank, these are so you can attach the braille symbols using braille labeling adhesive (I use the product from American Printing House).
  • Add the appropriate braille symbol using adhesive braille paper to the guitar cutout to provide a reading experience.

Kindergarten - Word Analysis, Fluency, and Systematic Vocabulary Development : 
K.1.6 Recognize and name all uppercase and lowercase letters of the alphabet.
