Roz Rowley
It is with great sadness that we learned of the passing of Rosalind “Roz” Rowley on April 14, 2016. A graduate of Perkins School for the Blind, Roz taught at Perkins for more than 40 years. She was beloved by students and staff alike, and was named Teacher of the Year in 2010 by the Braille Institute of America, which was an honor she always treasured. During her career she taught all ages and levels of reading, braille and English, as well as other courses related to Language Arts. Roz had searched for a reading program to address one of her student’s needs. She came upon The Wilson Reading Program, requested help from her colleagues, and worked with Perkins, APH, and the Wilson Corporation to publish the first three levels of their program in braille and large print. She was gifted at finding ways to help students with learning disabilities and other learning difficulties.
She has contributed a great deal to the field in addressing the needs of struggling braille readers and was a blogger on this site. Posts by or about Roz include the following:
- Why We Love Using the Wilson Reading System® with Struggling Braille Readers

We remember Roz with great affection and will miss her humor and lively spirit. We extend our deepest sympathy to her family.
