Kristie Smith has been an educator for the past 34 years in the Dallas area. She has worked with children from grades K-8 in general education, English as a Second Language, and for the past 16 years, has been a teacher for the blind and visually impaired.
 
Because of inspiration from an amazing student who is blind, Kristie developed a children’s book mystery series called The Adventures of Abby Diamond — Girl Detective. Kristie has also written over 15 activity books teaching parents, educators, and specialists how to work with children who are blind or visually impaired.
 
She is a national speaker for teaching educational strategies for the blind and has written and conducted trainings for American Printing House in Louisville, Kentucky.
 
Kristie is a member of the United States Review Panel for the Board of Education, has been an Apple Corp Teacher in Mesquite Independent School District in 2006, teacher of the year in 1999 and was nominated for a media award by Governor Rick Perry’s Special Needs Committee for her writing piece on Teaching Colors to the Blind.
 
In the past Kristie was a Dallas Moms Blogger and a member of The Dallas Morning News‘ Voices Columns as a guest columnist.
 
Kristie’s interests are traveling with family and friends, teaching children with special needs and writing on topics that inspire her.
