What's in the Trunk of an Itinerant TVI?
Submitted by Renee Ellis on Feb 11, 2018
In addition to all of the files, books, and notes for each individual student (as well as all that an itinerant needs on the road herself, like changes of clothes and food!), I try to travel with a small "workshop" of items that I use frequently. This includes materials that I can use to make a quick adaptation, a tactile book or a tactile communication card. Of course this can be as simple or complex as you have room for, but my basic "kit" included the following:
- glue gun
- glue sticks
- hole puncher
- metal rings
- scissors
- needle nose pliers
- sound-producing items, such as small jingle bells
- popsicle sticks that can be used as page fluffers
- Sharpie black felt tip marker
- Velcro
- small pieces of PVC pipe
- Black felt or Veltex
- Christmas lights in bundles
- Braille labels
