Textures Song and Position Board
Submitted by Belinda Fayard on Feb 29, 2016
This activity is designed to encourage students with visual impairments and additional disabilities to explore items of varying texture.
Materials:
- Position board (made of pegboard)
- Toys and objects of different texture
Procedure:
I play the Textures Children's song by Patty Shukla for my student who is blind.
She tactually uses the position board to find the matching object that the song is referencing, for example, "This book is hard." This helps her work on object permanence, as well as naming objects and naming textures.
Variations:
- Use items of preferred colors with students with CVI (Cortical Visual Impairment)
