Storage Ideas for Teaching Materials

zip bag with flashcards
One of the issues we have as VI teachers is storage. How to store materials so students/teachers/etc. can retrieve the materials easily is the age old problem. I'm sorry to say I can't solve that problem either. I can however share an unconventional method that I use for some of the materials. I love Ziploc bags, but I frequently with they could hang or just have a snap closure. For the last couple of years I've been using the plastic bags that children's underwear come in (like in the picture) or like sheets/blankets come in. They are AMAZING and stronger than the Ziploc bag!

The smaller ones I use for flashcards, braille eraser/stylus storage, etc. The larger ones for homework bags, materials for a project, games, etc. I typically do a call out to colleagues at school to see if they have any they are willing to donate to the 'cause'. The nice thing is they have the hook from hanging on the peg at the store or a nice handle on the larger bags. I like to hang the bags up on a metal hook that the teachers typically have in the front of the room near the calendar area or in the student's cubby.

Sometimes finding storage requires you to think outside of the box. What are some things that you've tried??
