Max's Flag Routine: Sensory Learning Routine
Submitted by Charlotte Cushman on Jun 06, 2019
American Printing House for the Blind (APH) shares a video example of a sensory learning routine with five-year-old Max, who performs at the sensorimotor stage of cognitive development. In this video, he performs his Sensory Learning Kit (SLK) Flag Routine. His teacher, Ms. Mary, uses visual modeling and tactual modeling to teach Max three embedded goals: to reach, to observe, and to imitate. Although it is difficult for Max to control his movement, particularly his head, he begins to achieve his goals while attaining new skills. SLK strategies ensure that sensorimotor level routines create new learning opportunities.
