Early Intervention Visual Impairment Professionals

EIVI homepage

EIVI Professionals is a website for people doing early intervention with young children who are blind or visually impaired.  The site was developed using grant funds from OSEP (the US Department of Education Office of Special Education Programs) awarded to Illinois State University to address personnel shortages in EIVI.  The goal of the grant is to increase the number and quality of teachers of the visually impaired and orientation and mobility specialists trained to work with infants and toddlers. This site will not only support newly trained EIVI professionals in Illinois, but will also provide a platform for collaboration and education throughout the nation.

The site includes the following sections:

  • Understanding Development
    • Topics of Development
    • Fact Sheets
    • Research Links
  • EIVI Toolbox
    • Intervention Ideas
    • Planning a Session

Visitors to the site can search the database of intervention ideas or share their own ideas.

The Session Planning Matrix is a helpful tool focusing on collaboration between teachers and families, with families taking the lead in identifying priorities.
